Gordon Hendry - Managing Director
Gordon Hendry has extensive experience serving as a real estate advisor to state and local public agencies and educational institutions. He also is an office tenant representation advisor to corporate and not-for-profit clients.
He is experienced advising clients included elected officials on complex, high profile transactions. His range of services include public private partnerships, development consulting, strategic portfolio planning and optimization, market and financial analysis, highest and best use analysis, leases, acquisitions and dispositions, investment properties, and RFP development and oversight.
Prior to forming HRE Advisors, Gordon worked for CBRE, the largest global commercial real estate advisory company, for over 10 years.
While at CBRE, he was the sole tenant representation broker for the largest Indianapolis - area office lease of 2017, according to the Indianapolis Business Journal, an over 85,000 SF lease on behalf of a local government agency. Notable transactions he has been involved in include the Penrose on Mass in downtown Indianapolis on behalf of the City of Indianapolis, the ElectricWorks redevelopment in downtown Ft. Wayne on behalf of General Electric, the acquisition of two school buildings over 100,000 SF on behalf of the GEO Foundation, and the acquisition of the former 100,000 SF Celadon campus on the east side of Indianapolis on behalf of IndyGo, the local public transportation company.
Prior to CBRE, he was the head of the Indy Partnership, 10-county regional economic development organization based in Indianapolis and the largest in Indiana. During his time at the Indy Partnership, Site Selection magazine named the organization as one of the top 10 economic development groups in the country.
Gordon also served as a senior advisor to Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson, including as the City's Director of Economic Development. As the Mayor's liaison to the business community, he oversaw all downtown and neighborhood development, business recruitment and outreach, job creation, public incentives, workforce development, airport and transportation issues, and business-related legislation before the Indiana General Assembly.
Before joining public service, he practiced business and real estate law at Ice Miller in Indianapolis. He was born and raised in Bloomington, Indiana and is a graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington, Phi Beta Kappa, and George Washington University Law School. He has also attended the London School of Economics.
He served as one of eleven members of the Indiana State Board of Education from 2013-2019, appointed by two Governors. The Board oversees preK - 12 education in the State of Indiana. He proposed the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship, and working closely with the Speaker of the House, it passed into law in 2016. Every year since the program has provided 200 highly qualified high school students $30,000 (and starting in 2023, $40,000) college scholarships to enter the teaching profession in Indiana. Over 1,400 students have received the scholarships to date.
The Indianapolis Business Journal has named him to its "Forty Under 40" List. He is frequently cited by local print and television media organizations on real estate and economic development matters and widely followed on Twitter (@GordonHendry) for his commentary.
